As an Accountant, you will be responsible for general ledger accounting and related activities as assigned, including working with senior leadership and operational staff to ensure compliance with financial reporting and grant management requirements.

Basic Function:

To promote the financial integrity and operational efficiency of SCMEP through exceptional accounting and reporting practices.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage and participate in all accounting functions including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, financial analysis, and financial reporting
  • Perform various general ledger month-end close activities, including preparation and review of journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support the Chief Financial Officer in maintaining and developing a robust financial control environment and improving the efficiency of current systems and processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP, federal grant management and other applicable law and regulations
  • Work with independent auditors and grant oversight agencies to ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements
  • Assist staff and partners by answering project and/or accounting related questions, promptly resolving problems and issues
  • Plan and organize own work assignments, as well as carry out tasks from senior leadership in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Review work completed by administrative support staff to ensure accuracy of financial transactions

Education, Training, and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in accounting related field or minimum of 5 years financial experience with a deep understanding of accounting principles and processes, preferably in a non-profit environment. Starting salary range is $70,000 – $80,000, depending on experience. Compensation package also includes health insurance, paid time off and retirement benefits.
