Situation
Cablecraft Motion Controls was acquired in August of 2021 by Cable Manufacturing & Assembly (CMA). An effort to consolidate the manufacturing capability closer to the end user meant relocating the Washington State facility to St. Matthews, SC. They were looking for technical, engineering, and project management support for the relocation.
Solution
The project required several stages for the successful move and commissioning of approximately 30 pieces of manufacturing equipment. SCMEP’s expert resource, with extensive experience in plant layout, lean flow, and new process design, was able to provide onsite and offsite support for the project. SCMEP was also able to update and maintain changes to the future state layout to reflect changes during the time on the project. Relocation activities included:
- The establishment of a workable lean layout, including utilities and services to support the layout.
- A current state and proposed future state value stream map of the process.
- A utility layout for the purposes of quoting.
- Collaboration with all CMA team members, contractors, and project leads.
- Facilitation of the receiving and commissioning of equipment.
