Lean 101
Join us for a one-day workshop that mixes classroom and hands-on activity to teach or refresh knowledge of lean principles. A simple simulation allows participants to experience waste and lean solutions in an assembly process first-hand. This makes for an informative interesting day of training.
We begin the day with a process that cannot meet customer demand. Participants learn to ‘see the waste’ and apply lean tools to better utilize resources to create value for the customer. The SCMEP instructor draws upon their manufacturing experience to relate the simulation to concepts of value, flow, pull and perfection.
Workshop topics covered:
- Five principles of Lean- Value, Value Stream, Flow, Pull, Perfection
- Definition of Value added and non-Value added activity
- 8 Wastes- Defects, Overproduction, Waiting, Non-engaged employees, Transportation, Inventory, Motion, Excess processing
- 5S- Workplace Organization
- Visual Management
- Standard Work
- Batch size reduction
- Takt time vs Cycle Time
- Point of Use Storage
- Quality at the Source
- Pull/Kanban
- Cellular Flow
