January 2, 2024

GREENVILLE, S.C. — S.C. Manufacturing Extension Partnership has partnered with ToolingU-SME to provide a new electric vehicle certification training program. The new training will support the rapidly growing workforce needs of the burgeoning electric vehicle manufacturing industry in South Carolina.

The SME Electric Vehicles Fundamentals (EVF) Certification, available online at scmep-online.org, is focused on the fundamentals of electric vehicles. The credential can help individuals begin a lifelong career in a growing industry where there is opportunity for advancement. This package of online modules is intended to prepare learners for the SME Electric Vehicles Fundamentals exam and satisfies the education component for pursuing the formal credential. The program costs $635 and includes 66 self-paced modules, which take about an hour each to complete, a pre-test, and the final exam. Credential-seekers need to score an 80 or above on the exam. Six electric vehicle manufacturers call South Carolina home or have announced plans to build manufacturing facilities in the state. Nationally, the electric vehicle manufacturing industry is projected to add 6,000 manufacturing assembly jobs per year through the year 2031.

“South Carolina has long been a leader in automotive manufacturing, and our state will play a critical role in meeting the rising global demand for electric vehicles,” said SCMEP President and CEO Andy Carr. “SCMEP is poised to support this industry’s growth in South Carolina in a number of ways. Ensuring manufacturers in this state have a well-trained workforce is essential, and we are excited to partner with ToolingU-SME to provide this training program.”
